WASHINGTON, D.C. – Last week,  Congressman Jamaal Bowman, Ed.D (NY-16) led his colleagues in sending a letter to the U.S. Department of Education, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the Office of Management and Budget, Center for Disease Control and Prevention and The White House to address children’s well-being on school campuses in response to COVID-19, monkeypox and polio.

“Our kids, educators, and school staff are often  exposed to viruses and diseases on their school campuses before many members of their communities ,” said Congressman Jamaal Bowman, Ed.D (NY-16). “Their health and well-being is my top priority. I’m urging every level of government to enact an all-hands approach to mitigate and eradicate the viruses and diseases that have run rampant throughout this pandemic - specifically Covid-19, monkeypox and polio. As schools continue to face three compounding public health crises and a plethora of related issues, including changed learning environments due to Covid and increased staffing needs, our schools need robust guidance and extensive federal investments to proactively combat major health concerns. I’m calling on our federal government to set the proper protocols in place along with the appropriate resources to set us in that direction immediately.”

Co-signers of the letter include: Reps. Alma Adams, Karen Bass, Adriano Espaillat, Dwight Evans, Jesús “Chuy” Garcia, Marie Newman, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez,  Adam Schiff, Mark Takano, Frederica Wilson, Nydia Velázquez
